A major plant expansion, growing production and new product upgrades are advancing the company’s Built for America investment strategy.

GE Appliances, a Haier company, is investing in a 67,000-square-foot expansion of its manufacturing plant in Selmer, Tennessee. The project supports continued growth for the premium refrigerators and hospitality air-conditioning products made at the plant.

Growing production in Selmer

Site preparation for the expansion is nearing completion. The additional space will support manufacturing of packaged terminal air conditioners, known as PTACs; vertical terminal air conditioners, or VTACs; and Monogram column refrigerators.

Demand is growing across all three product lines, and GE Appliances is investing in the products as well as the plant. The Selmer team expects to produce more PTACs this year than ever before while also increasing production of VTACs and Monogram refrigerators.

Advancing GE Appliances’ Built for America strategy

GE Appliances President and CEO Kevin Nolan recently visited Selmer to tour the plant and see the investment momentum firsthand with plant manager Ray Deming.

“We have volume coming for PTAC, VTAC and for our columns line,” Deming said. “We have a lot going on in our five-year plan.”

The Selmer expansion is part of GE Appliances’ broader Built for America strategy. Since 2016, GE Appliances has committed more than $6.5 billion to its U.S. operations — creating new manufacturing capabilities, improving products and helping the company build even more appliances in the United States.

With production growing, product improvements launching and a major expansion underway, Selmer represents what it means for GE Appliances to be America’s Most Invested Appliance Company.
